Palmistry mounts: the eight mounts of the hand and what they actually tell you

What the mounts are

Flatten your dominant hand. The palm is not smooth. It has raised pads at the base of each finger, a bigger one at the base of the thumb, another on the outer edge opposite the thumb, and two subtler ones in the middle of the palm. Those eight pads are the mounts. Palmistry names them after the classical planets and reads each as a specific quality of temperament.

You are not comparing your mounts to some ideal hand. You are comparing them to each other. Whichever one stands out most on your palm is your dominant mount, and it will do most of the talking in your reading.

The eight mounts, one by one

Mount of Jupiter (under the index finger)

The Jupiter mount reads as ambition, leadership, and self-belief. A firm, well-shaped mount reads as someone who is comfortable being in charge and who does not shrink from responsibility. Very pronounced tips into pride and needing to run every room. Flat reads as someone who prefers to be led, or who has quietly opted out of the status game.

Mount of Saturn (under the middle finger)

Saturn reads as discipline, seriousness, and how you relate to work and time. Prominent reads as patient, methodical, and drawn to depth. Overdeveloped can tip into melancholy or rigidity. A flat Saturn mount is common; it reads as light-hearted rather than as a flaw.

Mount of Apollo (under the ring finger)

Apollo, also called the Sun mount, reads as creativity, taste, and how much you like being seen. Well-developed reads as someone with a strong aesthetic sense and easy warmth in front of other people. Very pronounced can tip into showmanship. Flat reads as private and unbothered by attention.

Mount of Mercury (under the little finger)

Mercury reads as communication, quickness, and commercial instinct. Prominent belongs to talkers, writers, salespeople, and traders. It sharpens quick decisions and reading rooms. Very pronounced can tip into slickness. Flat reads as someone who thinks before speaking and prefers depth over speed.

Mount of Venus (at the base of the thumb)

Venus is the big pad enclosed by the life line. It reads as vitality, warmth, and capacity for physical affection. A firm, full mount of Venus reads as someone with real physical energy and easy generosity in relationships. Overdeveloped can read as impulsive or overly appetite-driven. Very flat reads as low physical drive or emotional guardedness.

Mount of Luna (opposite the thumb, on the outer edge)

Luna reads as imagination, intuition, and receptivity. Prominent belongs to dreamers, artists, and people whose inner life is loud. Very pronounced can tip into escapism or restlessness. Flat reads as practical and unmoved by fantasy. A well-developed Luna often shows up on people who feel a strong pull toward water, travel, or long-distance moves.

Upper Mars (between Mercury and Luna)

Upper Mars reads as endurance and passive courage. This is the mount for people who can absorb pressure without cracking. Prominent belongs to people who quietly outlast difficult situations. Flat reads as thin skin and quick discouragement under stress.

Lower Mars (between Jupiter and Venus)

Lower Mars reads as active courage and drive. Prominent belongs to people with a fighting temperament, whether that shows up in sport, argument, or work under pressure. Very pronounced can tip into aggression. Flat reads as conflict-averse.

How to read your mounts together

Look at your palm and pick the mount that visibly stands out most. That one is your dominant mount and it colors everything else. A dominant Venus with a flat Jupiter reads as a warm, physical person who does not care much about status. A dominant Jupiter with a flat Luna reads as an ambitious, practical person with a quiet inner life. Two mounts standing out roughly equally is common. Read them as a pair.

The mounts also modify the lines that pass near them. A heart line that ends on the mount of Jupiter reads as an idealistic lover. Reading mounts on your own hand

Hold your palm flat in daylight and let your fingers relax naturally. Tilt the hand slightly and watch which pads catch shadow. The shadowed side of a raised mount is what you are looking for. Press each mount gently with a finger from your other hand. Firm and springy reads as active. Soft and yielding reads as easy but underused. Hard reads as overdeveloped.
